Prescott, AZ. – The #13 Lady Firestorm lost their shooting touch in the fourth quarter, and so received their first loss in GSAC play at the hands of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Alyssa Alvarez scored 15 points, and
Emily Till recorded another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Much like the first meeting between these two teams, the first three quarters were tightly contested, and with the Firestorm entering the fourth quarter with a four point lead it was still anybody's game. But unlike the last time, the final three minutes belonged to the Eagles of Embry-Riddle.
With three minutes to, and the game tied at 53 apiece, the teams went back and forth, each briefly holding one-point leads. But then the Eagle's Jordyn Smith made back-to-back layups while the Firestorm missed on back-to-back jump shots before Hannah Urbana hit a back breaking three point shot to give the Eagles a two-possession lead with just forty seconds remaining. Another miss by the Firestorm led to two free throws by the Eagles which sealed their victory.
Thoughts from Head Coach Rusty Rogers
"Unfortunately, our inconsistent play finally caught up to us. We have been getting by for the last three weeks and today nothing went our way. It was a complete loss, and hopefully, we bounce back."
