Prescott Valley, Ariz.- Arizona Christian University's wrestling program showcased its emerging talent against NAIA fifth ranked Embry-Riddle, with two Firestorm victories highlighting Saturday's Mile High Challenge in Prescott Valley.
In the marquee match of the evening, ACU's
Kaden Martin delivered a key victory, defeating NAIA national finalist and second-ranked Keller Rock. Martin orchestrated an impressive comeback to secure an 18-13 win, demonstrating the high-level talent developing within the Firestorm program.
Sean Archuleta reinforced ACU's strong showing with a dominant performance, securing a pin in the first period of his match.
The Firestorm's freshman class displayed promise, as
Nathan Hernandez nearly pulled off an upset at 125 pounds against the nation's fourth-ranked wrestler, falling just short in a 4-1 decision. In the 141-pound division,
Channing Porter also pushed his nationally ranked opponent to the limit in a closely contested match.
"This weekend we took on NAIA #5 Embry-Riddle in front of a large crowd of some of Arizona's best high school wrestlers," said Head Coach
Michael Butterfield. "Our guys wrestled tough."
The dual meet, which has become a traditional fixture for ACU over the past four years, provides valuable experience against top-tier competition while showcasing the program to Arizona's upcoming wrestling talent. The Firestorm are back in competition this Friday at a home event in the FRC starting at 5:00 pm.
