Salem, OR – For the second night in a row, the Lady Firestorm were able to build an early lead but were unable to hold it as the Warriors of Corban University used strong second and fourth quarters to get the win on the second night of the Hampton Inn Classic.  Sophomore Taylor Schwab led the team in scoring with 25 points, while senior post Emily Till was close behind with 22 points to go with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks.  The team also received strong play from junior post player Shaylynn De Yager who notched 19 points and 8 rebounds, and senior Maggie Spencer contributed 13 points and 7 rebounds.
 
The first period was a back-and-forth affair up until the 3:00 mark when Ellie Heideman kicked off a 7-0 run with a three pointer, that was followed by two layups from De Yager that opened up an eight-point lead for the Firestorm.  Corban's Jersey Huerta scored to end the run, but then Schwab immediately responded with a three pointer before De Yager made two free throws and one more layup to help the team enter the second quarter with a nine-point lead. 
 
In quarter two, the team saw continued hot shooting from both Schwab and De Yager, but the team was unable to get stops on the other end and gave up 34 points to the Warriors and so entered half time down two points.
 
Unlike the night before, the Lady Firestorm played a strong third quarter to regain the lead.  Till scored eight points, and Spencer knocked down two three pointers to help the Firestorm regain the lead.  The team defense was also staunch, only giving up sixteen points and forcing four Warrior turnovers in the period.
 
In the fourth quarter both teams battled with the Firestorm holding a slim advantage throughout.  But the Warriors Huerta would score 17 of her game high 33 points in the final stanza including 4-6 free three throws down the stretch to help the Warriors pull away from the Firestorm and collect their second straight victory of the young season – and send the Firestorm to their second defeat.
