Caldwell, ID – In the first game of the College of Idaho Classic, the Lady Firestorm got a second shot at the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon, but like the first contest, a poor third quarter doomed the Firestorm and they fell 79-74.
The Firestorm lost despite a dominating performance from senior post player
Emily Till who scored 26 points while pulling down 16 rebounds and blocking two shots. Sophomore
Taylor Schwab scored 18 points while recording 4 steals. Juniors
Bryce Wolf and
Mariana Golombowski were sparks off the bench, particularly in the fourth quarter.
After a back and forth first half in which neither team led by more than four points, the Mountaineers used a third quarter surge to separate from the Firestorm. The Mountaineers led by as many as twelve points and entered the final period ahead by nine. In the final quarter, although the Firestorm got within three points twice, the Mountaineers each time was able to answer and staved off the Firestorm's comeback bid.
Quote from Head Coach Rusty Rogers
"Again, a difficult third quarter doomed us. Our defense has got to get better for us to have success. A good takeaway though is that we had some different people step up for us in the fourth quarter to keep us in the game."
