Mesa, AZ – The #13 Lady Firestorm put the finishing touches on their first ever regular season GSAC championships in dominating fashion on Thursday night by defeating Benedictine-Mesa on the road, 104-56.
The team was led in scoring by freshman
Alana Washington who besides scoring 19 points, filled up the stat sheet with 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Washington received help from two other freshmen, her sister Mae who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and
Taylor Schwab who scored 13 points while handing out 3 assists.
The team will now look ahead to the GSAC tournament opener next Friday night, February 28. The team will host the surging Royals of Hope International at the ACU Event Center. The Royals started the GSAC schedule with five straight losses but have since won eight of their final nine games with their only loss coming at home to the Firestorm by a mere point in overtime.
Thoughts from Head Coach Rusty Rogers
"Excited to finally see our team play a complete game. It's been a while, but we've had a couple good practices, and they paid off today. Very happy to see so many contributions from so many players as we head into the playoffs."
