The Firestorm Shut Out Westcliff Behind Dominant Pitching

Irvine, Calif.-  ACU put together a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, blanking Westcliff with an 8-0 victory. A combination of stellar pitching and timely hitting powered the Firestorm to their 11th win of the season. The Firestorm's pitching was nearly untouchable, combining for 13 strikeouts while allowing just four hits over nine innings. Starter Frank Wierman was outstanding, pitching five shutout innings, allowing only two hits while striking out six. The bullpen continued the dominance, with Sean Wiese, Trey Tarver, and Chay Esqueda combining for four more scoreless innings, striking out seven more batters to seal the shutout.

  • In the top of the second inning, Logan Sanders homered to left field, and earned an RBI. ACU lead 1-0. 
  • Later in the game, with two runners on base, Greene flew out to left field as a sacrifice fly, and earned an RBI after Logan Sanders scored on the throw. ACU extended their lead, 2-0. 
  • The Firestorm had a huge ninth inning after they scored 6 runs. 
  • With a runner on base, Kiaunis homered to left center and earned two runs after Solis scored. 
  • Later that inning with the bases loaded, Greene walked and earned an RBI as Anderson scored another run. Edmonds also walked with bases loaded and also earned an RBI after Logan Sanders scored. 
  • With bases loaded, Fukofuka singled up the middle and earned two RBI after Petrus and Marcus Sanders scored. ACU won the game, 8-0.

"Good team win tonight. Once again, we got good pitching and defense. Offensively, we grinded out at-bats and that eventually paid off. I'm proud of these dudes for showing up to play and traveling on the same day."
