ACU Holds Off Late Rally to Defeat Nelson

Phoenix, Ariz. – The Firestorm capitalized on early scoring opportunities and strong pitching to secure a 5-3 victory over the Warriors. ACU got on the board first, scoring a run in the first inning. Nelson responded and tied the game shortly after. Then, the Firestorm struck back and scored three unanswered runs, taking the lead 4-1. Both teams were quiet offensively until the seventh inning, when another wild pitch allowed the Firestorm to score another run, extending the lead to 5-1. Nelson University responded in the bottom half, scoring twice, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Kane Kiaunis earned the win for ACU, pitching seven innings, while allowing three runs on eight hits and struck out eight batters. Jackson Hohensee sealed the win in the ninth inning and earned his sixth save of the season.

Inside The Game
  • The Firestorm got on the board first when Ivy singled to center field. Fukofuka grounded out to second base, but Ivy scored on the same play. ACU lead 1-0. 
  • ACU had a huge inning as they scored another three runs as Fukofuka hit a single that scored Beckworth. Tarver doubled down the right field line and earned an RBI after Ivy scored. Fukofuka also scored a run later in the inning on a wild pitch. ACU lead 4-1. 
  • In the seventh inning, Ivy scored another run on a wild pitch. ACU extended their lead 5-1. 
  • Hohensee came in to pitch in the ninth inning and sealed the win, earning another save. ACU won the ballgame 5-3.
