The Firestorm Take The Series After Dominating The Warriors

Glendale, Ariz.- ACU got their third straight win and took the series against the Corban Warriors after a big offensive performance, having 11 hits on the day. It was a three home run game, as Andrew Ivy, Kimo Fukofuka and Kane Kiaunis all hit home runs. With his grand slam, Kiaunis finished with six RBI's in a single game. Easyn Culp also had another great outing, as he threw for five scoreless innings, with seven strikeouts and only allowing two hits and two runs in his six innings pitched. On Saturday, the Firestorm will close out the series against the Corban Warriors and will look ahead to host Saint Xavier for a four game series the following weekend.

Inside The Game
  • The Firestorm started the game off strong when they scored 3 runs, after Fukofuka, Kiaunis and Garcia all got hits. ACU was up 3-0. 
  • In the third inning, Fukofuka hit a bomb to left center, hitting a home run in back-to-back games. ACU extended their lead after Kiaunis doubled down the right field line, earning an RBI after Vieguth scored. A couple batters later, Logan Sanders advanced on a couple errors, and Kiaunis scored ahead of him. The score was then 6-0. 
  •  In the fourth inning, Ivy singled to right field and later scored another run. ACU led the Warriors 7-0. 
  • The Firestorm had a huge fifth inning after they scored 8 runs. Logan Sanders hit a sacrifice fly which drove in Kiaunis. Ivy singled to right field with bases loaded, earning an RBI and allowing Garcia to score. The Firestorm continued to get a couple more hits with bases loaded. Later that inning, Kiaunis hit a grand slam to clear the bases, and extend the lead 15-0. 
  • The slug fest continued as Ivy also hit a home run in the sixth inning, extending their lead 16-3. 
  • Culp had another great outing, as he threw for 5 scoreless innings, and had 7 strikeouts.

"I was really proud of our approach at the plate tonight in the early innings. [Eastyn] Culp was dialed in and [our] defense played great."

On Saturday, ACU will host Corban for the final game of the series at Greenway High School at 12pm.
