A Mercy Rule Split

Glendale, Ariz.- In an odd doubleheader on Friday, Embry-Riddle (AZ) won game one and Arizona Christian won game two with both games going final via the mercy rule in five innings.

  • Garcia singled to shortstop in the bottom of the first

Inside Game Two
  • After only one hit in game one, Miles, Garcia, and Herrera delivered three straight singles to start the bottom of the first and built a 2-0 lead
  • A 1-2-3 top and bottom of the second was followed by ERAU plating four runs in the third  
  • Heading to the bottom of the fifth trailing 4-2, ACU exploded for a ten run inning to turn potential defeat into a mercy rule win
  • A Miles walk, Herrera RBI single, Landeros single, Bradford and Lauko back-to-back RBI doubles, Fogleman triple, Grubb walk, and Miles single accounted for the first six runs of the inning
  • After the inning was kept alive by two errors, Landeros walked in a run and Bradford doubled to center to plate Garcia and Herrera to put the mercy rule into effect
  • Like the Firestorm evened their season record, Herrera evened her record in the pitching circle

"We are proud of how our team bounced back after a difficult game one.  Dayna was a leader in the circle and at the plate.  It was great to see us make the adjustments offensively from game one to game two."
