ACU Rallies Late to Defeat OUAZ, Advances in GSAC Championship

Mesa, Ariz.- In a tightly contested matchup at Hohokam Stadium, the Firestorm came from behind to edge OUAZ 5-4, securing the win thanks to a five-run outburst in the seventh inning.

The game started as a pitcher's duel, with both teams unable to break through in the early innings. OUAZ broke the deadlock in the fifth, when Nicholas Lustig tripled down the left field line, driving in three unearned runs to give OUAZ a 3-0 lead.

ACU responded in the seventh, using a series of clutch hits and unearned runs to take the lead. Logan Sanders doubled home Kimo Fukofuka, cutting the lead to 3-1. A fielding error by OUAZ's second baseman allowed Sanders to score, and Jaylen Edmonds' RBI single tied the game at 3-3. Trey Tarver then provided the game's biggest blow, launching a two-run homer to right field, giving the Firestorm a 5-3 advantage. OUAZ threatened in the ninth, when they homered to right, trimming the deficit to 5-4. However, closer Jackson Hohensee came in to seal the game, earning his 11th save of the season. Trey Tarver earned the win for ACU, tossing seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six.

The Firestorm secure the win as they continue their push in the postseason, advancing to the next round in the GSAC Championship tournament. They will play #4 The Master's on Tuesday at 12 pm.
