ACU Sweeps Park Gilbert in Doubleheader

Glendale, Ariz. –  Arizona Christian earned a doubleheader sweep on Friday, defeating Park Gilbert 8–4 in game one before exploding for a 15–2 victory in game two. 

In the first game, Frank Wierman earned the win after striking out eight over five innings. The bullpen combination of Mason Whiteley, Colin Plain, Ty Howry, and David Gordon II closed out the game with four scoreless innings. In the second game, Kolten Lindstrom led the offense with two hits and three runs scored, while Manasan drove in two runs. Genduso and Kirkpatrick each homered in the victory. 

In the second game, the Firestorm offense caught fire in the nightcap, scoring in five different innings and erupting for a five-run seventh to complete the sweep with a 15–2 win. Jack Brooker earned the win on the mound, striking out eight while allowing two runs across five innings of work. The bullpen of Dyllan Curthoys, Nathan Collier, and Brady Culp combined to hold Park-Gilbert scoreless over the final two innings. Luke Zuromski led the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Marcellus Cueva drove in three and Maddox Hodges added four RBIs with his grand slam. Andrew Ivy also reached base four times with three walks and scored three runs.

Inside Game One
  • ACU broke the game open early and held off a brief Park-Gilbert rally to take the opener 8–4.
  • The Firestorm erupted for four runs in the second inning to take control. 
  • Joey Genduso put ACU on the board with a solo home run to left-center before Andrew Ivy added a sacrifice fly later in the inning. 
  • Noah Manasan capped the rally with a two-run double, giving the Firestorm a 4–0 lead.
  • Park-Gilbert responded with three runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Aron Rivas, cutting the deficit to one.
  • ACU answered immediately in the third when Austin Kirkpatrick launched a two-run homer to right-center to extend the lead to 6–3. 
  • The Firestorm added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth on a Luke Zuromski sacrifice fly and a Ty Gillespie RBI groundout.
  • ACU won the game, 8-4.

Inside Game Two
  • The Firestorm offense caught fire in the nightcap, scoring in five different innings and erupting for a five-run seventh to complete the sweep with a 15–2 win.
  • ACU plated two runs in the first inning on an RBI hit by Genduso and a groundout from Ivy. 
  • After Park-Gilbert tied the game at 2–2 through three innings, the Firestorm regained the lead with a three-run fourth inning. 
  • Ty Gillespie delivered an RBI single before Zuromski followed with a two-run single.
  • ACU continued to build the lead in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Cueva highlighted the sixth with a three-run double to push the advantage to 10–2.
  • The Firestorm put the game away in the seventh inning, scoring five runs. 
  • Hodges delivered the biggest blow with a towering grand slam to left field to cap the scoring.
  • ACU won the game, 15-2.
