Successful Day In Tucson

Tucson, Ariz.- Securing a win in their last at bats in game one and good offensive output in game two led to an Arizona Christian sweep in their one day of participation in the Tucson Invitational.  The Firestorm extended their win streak to 11 eleven games- the second longest in program history.

ACU Game One Stats
Inside Game One
  • DWU scored single runs in the second and fourth 
  • ACU had traffic in the early innings early including three singles in the third but could not score
  • In the sixth, the Firestorm found a run when Herrera doubled and Brooke Lemley pinch ran and scored on an error
  • Herrera faced just six batters in the final two innings in relief thanks to Christina Grubb gunning down a would be base stealer
  • In the seventh, Villanueva and Martin singled, Elena Garcia sacrificed them into scoring position
  • On a bunt single from Herrera five feet up the first base line, Villanueva scored, Herrera kept running to second drawing a throw, and Martin raced in for the game winning run

Inside Game Two
  • In the bottom of the first, Martin walked, Herrera singled, Slater tripled and the Firestorm were up 2-0
  • Second much of the same in the third, Martin hit by a pitch, Garcia singled, and Herrera and Slater collected RBIs
  • Lemley and Pisa both singled, Martin reached on an error, stored on another error for a three spot in the fourth
  • At one point, Grinstead struck out seven in a ten batter stretch
  • The Fighting Saints found the scoreboard with three in the sixth
  • Slater singled home home the final two Firestorm runs
  • Eleven straight wins finds ACU chasing a program best 13 straight wins which came just two seasons ago

Up Next
Next week's four game series with Park Gilbert has been moved up to Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate Arizona Christian hosting the first and second rounds of the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship.  Both doubleheaders with the Buccaneers will start at 4:30 pm.
