Mark Flatten serves as Associate Head Coach of the Arizona Christian University baseball program after being hired to the position in June, 2020. Coach Flatten has worked every level from professional baseball as a scout and minor league coach to college assistant coach and high school head coach.
Highlights from Coach Flatten's career include coaching 35 professional players as amateurs that factors in 15 Major League Baseball players. His previous work in the collegiate ranks resulted in 65 All-Conference players with ten earning NCAA Division I All-American honors. Coaching at the high school level, Flatten recorded over 360 wins and saw over 150 players move on to college ball.
Prior to coming to ACU Coach Flatten spent 8 years working in professional baseball. He has spent time in pro scouting and amateur scouting for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Toronto Blue Jays. He has also spent time working in player development for the Cincinnati Reds, and Milwaukee Brewers.
Coaching at the University of Missouri and the University of Texas at Arlington, Flatten worked primarily as the hitting and infield instructor. Under his watchful eye, four of players hit over .400 in a season with two winning conference batting titles and one striking out the fewest times as an NCAA Division I qualifying player.
From 2010-2017, Flatten was the head coach at three local Arizona high school stops- Higley, Valley Vista, and Verrado. Three times he was recognized as an Arizona High School Regional Coach of the Year. His high school coaching career began in California at his alma mater Pacifica before moving to Orange Lutheran.
After lettering and earning all-league honors in baseball, basketball, and football, Flatten was named the PHS Athlete of the Year. As a college player, Flatten concluded his career at Missouri Valley College as an All-Conference second baseman. Leading the Evansville Outlaws to the United States Baseball Congress World Series title resulted in MVP honors.
Educationally, Flatten earned a degree from Missouri Valley College in physical education. Coach Flatten and his wife, Amanda, have two kids- daughter Kinley and son Brooks. The Flattens reside in Buckeye and attend the Goodyear campus of Palm Valley Church.
