Travis Armstrong, MS, ATC, started his ACU tenure as the Director of Sports Medicine in July 2018. He was promotted to Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine in August of 2020. Armstrong served seven years as the Associate Head Athletic Trainer at Grand Canyon University.
In his time with the NCAA Division I Lopes, Armstrong served as the Insurance Coordinator, Medical Coordinator for Summer Camps, and Adjunct Faculty Member along with his athletic training duties.
Prior to GCU, Armstrong spent four years as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
However, DSM Armstrong was no stranger to the Phoenix area before Catawba as he was the Head Athletic Trainer for Notre Dame Preparatory High School and Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Phoenix Road Runners of the ECHL.
After securing his National Athletic Training Association (NATA) license in 2004, Armstrong has added Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), International Cupping Therapy Association (ICTA), Advanced Cupping Therapy Certification (ACT) to his list of accomplishments.
When asked about his greatest achievement in athletic training, Armstrong wavered between having his grad school research published in the Journal of Sports Rehabilitation or becoming an Associate Head Athletic Trainer and Subject Matter Expert at a NCAA Division I school in his 20's.
Educationally, Armstrong earned a Master of Science in Sports Health Care from Arizona School of Health Sciences in 2006. Two years earlier, he graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a coaching minor.
When not keeping athletes healthy for competition, Armstrong enjoys spending time with his wife, Christy (also an athletic trainer), and their twins- Stetson and Gabriella. The Armstrong family attends Christ's Church of the Valley.
