Box Score PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian University women's basketball classic came to a close on Saturday evening with the University of Great Falls in Montana defeating San Diego Christian College 79-65 and the Montana State University – Northern defeating Arizona Christian 71-42.
With the loss, ACU falls to 1-3 overall on the season.
In game one on Saturday, San Diego Christian College came out inspired after looking flat the night before against Montana State University – Northern. SDCC took an early lead against the University of Great Falls, before the teams became even mid-way through and continue to exchange buckets. UGF went on a late run to take a 37-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Hawks couldn't muster enough strength to stick with Great Falls and would be outscored 42-33 on their way to a 14 point loss. Great Falls remained undefeated with the victory at 7-0, while SDCC dropped to 0-2 overall.
In the nightcap, Arizona Christian would have their hands full with a tough Montana State squad. After staying close early on, the Skylights would begin to flex their strength in the post and pull away from ACU. At halftime, MSU-N led ACU 30-16, while outshooting ACU 33% to 17%.
In the second half, the Firestorm continue to struggle shooting from the field and were outshot 58% to 30%. The Skylights outscored ACU 41-26 in the second half, on their way to a 71-42 victory. With the win, Montana State University – Northern, improved to 8-0 on the season.
The Firestorm were led in scoring by Alyssa Gruber, who had a team high 10 points and was the lone ACU player in double figures.
The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team will next be in action on Tuesday evening, when they take on Grand Canyon University at 6pm. The game will be an exhibition; as GCU is a NCAA Division 1 school that competes in the Big West conference.
