Box Score SANTA BARBARA, CA– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell to the 17th ranked Westmont Warriors on Saturday afternoon by a score of 88-76 in Santa Barbara, California.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-15 overall and remain winless in GSAC play at 0-6. With the victory, the 17th ranked Westmont Warriors improve to 16-3 overall and 3-3 in GSAC play.
In the first half, it was all Westmont; as the Warriors outscored the Firestorm 51-30. ACU shot 34% (10-for-29) in the first half and did not attempt a single three-pointer. ACU shot 76% (10-for-13) from the charity strip. Westmont shot 53% from the field in the first half and shot 50% (7-for-14) from beyond the three-point arc. The lone dark spot for the Warriors in the first half, was that they shot 0-for-5 from the free-throw line.
Arizona Christian outscored Westmont 46-37 in the second half, but it wasn't enough as they fell by 12 points on the road to the Warriors. ACU shot 48% from the field in the second half and shot 62% (5-for-8) from the three-point arc. Westmont cooled off in the second half, shooting 34% (9-for-26) from the field and shot 25% (3-for-12) from beyond the three-point arc. Westmont attempted 22 free-throws in the second half, converting on 16 of the shots.
In the losing effort, Arizona Christian had four players finish in double-figures; with Jazmin Mays leading the way. Mays finished with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds and seven assists.
The Firestorm women will take the week off, before returning home this Saturday January 24th; when William Jessup comes to Phoenix for a 1pm tip-off. The ACU men's basketball team will follow the women's game at 3pm.
