FIRESTORM EARN FIRST EVER GSAC VICTORY

The Firestorm women's basketball team defeated the Biola Eagles on Tuesday evening by a final of 57-52 to earn their first every Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) victory.

PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team defeated the Biola Eagles on Tuesday evening by a final of 57-52 to earn their first every Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) victory inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.

With the victory, the Firestorm improve to 5-18 overall and 1-9 in GSAC play. With the loss, the Biola Eagles fall to 13-11 overall and 5-5 in GSAC play.

The first half featured a tight low scoring first half of action. The Firestorm shot 54% from the field and struggled from beyond the three-point arc, shooting just 28%. From the free-throw line, the Firestorm were able to make just one of their four attempts. Biola shot just 32% from the field in the first half and shot 18% (2-for-11) from behind the three-point arc. The Eagles went a perfect two-for-two from the free-throw line in the first half. At halftime, the Firestorm held a thin 29-26 lead over the Biola Eagles.

In the second half, the Firestorm outscored Biola 28-26 on their way to the tight 57-52 victory. ACU shot 43% in the second half, but were unable to knock down a single three-pointer (0-for-4). The Firestorm got to the free-throw line for just three shots in the second half; making two of them. The Eagles shot a lowly 27% (9-for-33) in the second half and went shot just 37% (3-for-8) from beyond the three-point arc.

In the victory, the Firestorm had three players score in double figures; with Alyssa Gruber leading the way with 14 points. Gruber shot 5-for-8 from the field, 2-for-2 from the three-point line and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.

The Firestorm women close out their three-game homestand this Saturday against the Hope International Royals. Opening tip for the women's game is scheduled for 2pm this Saturday inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium. The men's game will follow the women's game, with a scheduled tip time set for 4pm.
