Box Score 3 Coach Olson and her team start their season off on the right foot with a win
Volleyball has a busy week, starting with a scrimmage Wednesday night, and the opening the regular season at the ACU Volleyball Classic at home. This is the first season for new Head Coach Becki Olson at ACU. After the scrimmage against South Mountain Community college she had this to say about her team, "It was a good start, but we have a lot of work to do. We are blessed to have two great senior leaders in Hailey Worden and Kaila Heaney. Their on and off the court leadership and determination set the standard for this team." The Firestorm also have a few new faces, Bainka Curvey, Alana and Mariah Kempf all joined the team this offseason.
Last year the volleyball team finished with a 10-14 record, something Coach Olson wants to improve, "this year's theme is to be relentless in everything we do and to glorify God is all of our actions on and off the court."
The Firestorm's first game at the ACU Volleyball classic was against Providence Christian in the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium. The first game was a close match, with the Firestorm winning 25-22 and taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Game two was a lop sided victory 25-11, and in game three another close battle, with the firestorm winning the game and the series 25-23. Many of the players contributed to the win, Samantha McCants lead the team in kills with 18, followed by Haley Settle with 9. Alana Kempf and Haley Worden were both strong off the bench Kempf with 6 kills and Worden with 17 digs.
