MEN'S SOCCER STARTS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A BIG WIN

Box Score

The Firestorm open GSAC play with a win.

The Men's Soccer team opened up the Golden State Athletic Conference schedule with a victory on Tuesday evening with a 4-1 victory on the road against Hope International.

"I am extremely pleased with our effort today against defending GSAC champions Hope International," started head coach Alan Berrios. "We knew coming in it wasn't going to be easy and would have to work extremely hard to get a good result. I thought our men did just that."

The Royals were 3-4 and received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll. However, the Firestorm were not rattled. While both teams had eight shots on goal it was ACU who capitalized, scoring early and often.

"We fought hard the entire game, worked as one unit and the game rewarded us. Sophomore Anthony Archuleta came up big today with two crucial goals. Junior Luis Tapia and senior Bernardo Venancio added a goal each. I am extremely pleased with this 4-1 victory away from home."

The Firestorm, currently 2-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference, are back in action at Rose Mofford Soccer Complex on Saturday, September 26 for their first home conference contest against Menlo College. They are set to start at 1:00 P.M.

"We will continue to work hard-stay humble, as we have a long tough road ahead of us. Next up is Menlo and we expect this to be another tough conference game. "
