If Only The Game Ended After One Quarter

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- A solid first quarter for Arizona Christian could not be maintained as #2 Westmont beat the Firestorm 76-59 on Tuesday.  Senior Jazmin Mays topped the Firestorm in the three main stat lines with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The Firestorm (10-14, 2-9 GSAC) matched the Warriors (21-3, 9-1 GSAC) shot for shot in the first ten minutes and held a 19-18 lead at the quarter change.

Westmont opened the game with a three pointer and after allowing just one tie held a 10-6 advantage five minutes into the game.

But the next two minutes resulted in an eight point swing for a four point ACU lead.  Mays teamed up with Freshman Jada Willingham and Freshman Makayla Enders to create the momentum swing.  All three scored and if they were not scoring they were dishing assists to each other.

The one point edge at the quarter saw Senior Madison Austin score eight of those points as ACU shot 44.4% as a team to begin the game.

However, the Warriors converted the first two points of the second quarter and stayed on the top side of the scoreboard the rest of the game.

Mays scored just before the half to push ACU back within two at the break.  Mays joined Austin at the eight point first half total.

As well as ACU played in the first quarter, the opposite was true in the third quarter as the game quickly slipped away from them.

Despite Arizona Christian only making three less shots from the field and equaling Westmont's made shots at the free throw line, the big difference in the score came from the Warriors nailing 14 three pointers versus just three made three pointers by the Firestorm.

Freshman Courtney Christmas scored five points in each half to join Mays in double digits.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will head to Grossmont College to meet up with San Diego Christian for a game at 3:00 pm (AT)/ 2:00 pm (PT).
