Firestorm and Royals Split To Remain Tied In GSAC Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Fullerton, CA- Tied for the most wins in GSAC play, Arizona Christian and Hope International split to remain equal in the GSAC win column.  The Royals won game one 2-1 followed by the Firestorm winning 5-0.  Senior Alyssa Vanderdrink was 4-7 on the day while Junior Destinee Spencer threw a complete game shutout in game two.

Upon leaving a runner on base in both of the first two innings, the Firestorm used a double from Vanderdrink and single from Junior Taylor Fabing to plate a run in the third.

But the Firestorm (14-5-1, 6-2 GSAC) only managed two base runners in the final four innings against HIU's Frances Campoy.

The Royals (15-14, 6-6 GSAC) used a walk, stolen base, and two groundouts to score in the fifth.  They scored the game winner in walk off fashion thanks to a single and two errors by ACU.

Senior Jackie Aguilar pitched into the seventh allowing one earned.

Game two saw Arizona Christian put up a three spot in the second inning.  Sophomore Ashlynn Preciado walked, Spencer singled, and Freshman Jenna Castilleja was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Junior Sianna Gomez singled to center to drive home Preciado and Spencer.  Castilleja came home on a fielder's choice.

In the seventh, ACU used singles from Gomez and Vanderdrink followed three batters later by a two RBI single from Senior Meaghen Nelson to make the game a 5-0 affair.

Spencer was far from perfect surrendering five hits and two walks but worked through any trouble with the complete game win to improve to 7-1.

On Wednesday, the Firestorm will play at former GSAC foe Concordia (now NCAA DII) in Irvine.  Game time will be 2:00 pm.
