Box Score Santa Barbara, CA- Facing apparently their toughest competition toward a repeat GSAC championship, #7 Arizona Christian lost 6-3 at #10 Westmont on Saturday.  For the Firestorm, it was their first loss of the season.
Starting in doubles, Junior Desiree Curiel and Freshman Lauren Garcia teamed to win the first finished match of the day on doubles court three.  They won 8-5.  Westmont won the next two doubles matches though Arizona Christian forced courts one and two to go to a ninth game win.
The Warriors (4-5, 4-1 GSAC) claimed the first two singles matches on courts one and two.
Freshman Tia Okano stopped the four point team run by the Warriors but she needed three sets to accomplish that feat.  After dropping the first set 6-3, Okano responded with 6-4 and 6-3 wins in the second and third sets.
But Westmont clinched the team win when Chloe Clement defeated Curiel on court five.  Curiel cruised through the first set winning 6-0 but dropped the last two sets 6-1 and 6-3.
On court six, Junior Lauryn Sullins needed three sets to pull out her win.  Sullins won 7-6 (7-5) in the first set.  Fernanda Rivera answered with a 6-1 second set win.  But with the use of a super tie break third set, Sullins won 10-5.
The final court playing on the day saw Haley Strandness beat Senior Iulia Marcenco 7-6 with a 7-3 tie break and 6-4 on court four.
The Firestorm (11-1, 5-1 GSAC) will stay in California for a total of three matches in three days.  The second match of the three will take place on Sunday against Holy Names on the neutral court of the Costa Mesa Tennis Center at 12:00 pm.
