Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- With the help of Sophomore Ashlynn Preciado delivering a game winning home run in game one and earning the win in game two, Arizona Christian swept Marymount California 3-0 and 6-2 on Wednesday.
Preciado and Senior Jackie Aguilar were the story of game one.
In the second inning, after Senior Meaghen Nelson reached with a single, Preciado deposited a 1-2 pitch over the left center field fence for a two run shot. Preciado's second home run of the season gave the Firestorm (19-8-1) a lead they would not surrender in the first game.
A double by Junior Taylor Fabing followed by an RBI single from Junior Sianna Gomez in the fourth gave ACU their final 3-0 game one cushion.
Aguilar (9-4) handled the rest from the circle allowing four hits with five strikeouts in the complete game shutout effort. She stranded a runner at third in two different innings.
Game two saw the first year program Mariners (4-11) use a home run and RBI single to score two runs on starter Junior Destinee Spencer. After the RBI single, Preciado came on in relief with ACU trailing 2-1 and shut the door. Preciado threw the final 3.2 innings scattering two singles and two walks. Preciado improved to 2-2 on the year.
Offensively, after scoring an unearned run in the first, the Firestorm bats came to life with two in the fourth and three in the fifth. In the fourth, RBI singles by Preciado and Spencer brought home Senior Abby Beasley and then Junior Kylie Christman. In the fifth, Gomez walked, Beasley doubled, and Christman tripled before coming home on weird inning ending play.
Head Coach Trisha Thurston commented, "After a late night last night in Prescott, I was happy with the two wins today. Jackie picked up right where she left off and threw another great shutout. Our bats came to life a little more in the second game and I loved the diving plays by Senior Ilene Ruiz, Alyssa, and Abby to steal hits. It was great having Kylie back in the lineup as she adds such an offensive threat for us."
On Thursday, the Firestorm will head to Tucson for their final day of participation at the Tucson Invitational. They will play three games beginning at 10:00 am.
