Fourth Time A Charm

Box Score

Indian Wells, CA- Appearing in their fourth GSAC Tournament proved to be the charm for Arizona Christian as they won their first tournament match with their 5-1 win over Hope International on Tuesday.  Junior David Castano accounted for the team winning point at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Gaining two points because HIU only had five players, ACU needed only to win three matches to secure the team win.

Starting with doubles, the Firestorm (7-14) and the Royals (2-16) split the two doubles matches with identical scores of 8-4.  HIU's Adrien Varenne and Anthony Sena pulled out the win on court one.  Sophomore Santiago Galeffi and Senior Michael Munguia knocked off the double M's of Mauricio Mosquera and Michael Maiolo.

Moving on to singles, Arizona Christian was looking for two match wins.

Junior Ezequiel Suarez dropped games in both sets (6-3 and 6-2) but still proved out to be the first match done on court four.

Court five saw Castano win the first set 6-0.  But Andres Rivas put up more of a fight in the second set and was only down 4-3.  But Castano won the final two games for the individual and team match win.

The final three matches on courts one through three all went down as unfinished.  Galeffi and Senior Tyler Cawthorne were both leading when their matches came to end.  Junior Seth Moore and Sena were locked up in 6-6 first set match.

Head Coach Chris Tolson commented, "I am happy for the guys getting their first conference Tourney win. They have worked so hard this year so it's good to see that starting to pay off! We will build off this and come out strong against Lewis-Clark tomorrow."

The fourth seeded Firestorm will live to fight another day as they will take on top seed Lewis-Clark State College on Wednesday about 12:00 pm.  For the Royals, their season comes to an end.
