Box Score Indian Wells, CA- Arizona Christian never could find a rhythm on Thursday as top seeded Westmont controlled the GSAC Tournament Final from nearly first serve to last before winning 5-0 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Freshman Tia Okano and Senior Iulia Marcenco were the only two to have limited success- each winning a set.
The Warriors (9-7) secured the first two doubles matches with big leads of 8-3 and 8-2. Marcenco and Okano made the third doubles court a little more interesting but they too came up short- falling 8-5.
Marcenco and Okano found their groove in their first sets on courts three and four with both recording 6-2 wins. But they lost all momentum in the second set losing 6-2 (Marcenco) and 6-4 (Okano). Due to the rest of the team match going against the Firestorm (17-4), Marcenco and Okano saw their matches wind up as unfinished.
Westmont secured the team win with wins on courts one and six. Courts two and five concluded as unfinished as well.
Despite the tough loss, ACU can look ahead to their near certain participation in the NAIA National Championships that will begin on May 17 in Mobile, AL.
