Firestorm Earn Season Series Win Against Royals

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Placentia, CA- Arizona Christian rebounded nicely after allowing a big inning in game one to earn a split in Saturday's double header- dropping a 13-4 result and recording a 6-4 win.  With the game two win, the Firestorm earned a 4-2 season series victory.

In the opener, the Royals (20-26-1, 10-17 GSAC) plated four runs in the second with the help of two singles, two doubles, and a two run home run.

Senior Christopher Burks put the Firestorm (12-25, 9-21 GSAC) on the board with a solo bomb to right field.

Leading off the seventh, Sophomore Michael Dunnebecke cleared the fence with a solo shot to left field- his first of the season.  One pitch later, pinch hitter Junior Chance Randall teed off on a ball that landed beyond the left center fence for his second homer of the year.  A walk to Burks, sacrifice bunt by Junior Hector Ortiz, and RBI from Senior Tate Erickson created a 4-4 tie.

HIU used a solo home run by Sean David Clark to move back in front before exploding for eight runs in the eighth to take a commanding 13-4 edge.  Martin Teague collected his second home run of the game as part of the Hope International eight run outburst.

Despite the lopsided game one score, Senior Joshua Garcia delivered a superb relief effort of four innings without giving up a run while striking out three.

Game two was about ACU scoring in groups of two.  They started the scoring with two unearned in runs in the third.  The Royals produced a single run in the third.

After Hope International tied the score at 2-2, Senior Jake Howard was hit by a pitch to begin the sixth.  Senior Jake Wakamatsu followed with his second round tripper of the series and ACU held a 4-2 advantage.

Erickson produced a two RBI single to increase the lead to 6-2 before the Royals cashed two runs on a single in the bottom of the seventh but would not get any closer.

Senior Tatum Hendrix (4-5) pitched six innings allowing just one earned run with six strikeouts.  Sophomore Wade Mason faced seven batters in the seventh surrendering two runs before closing out the non-save situation.

For the Firestorm, they will close out their season with a three game set against Bethesda beginning on Friday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Firestorm Field.  The Royals will conclude their season with a three game set at San Diego Christian- also starting on Friday.
