Box Score Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian Women's Basketball dominated out of the gate on Tuesday night against Ottawa (AZ) turning a 29-7 first quarter lead into an 89-78 win. Junior Courtney Christmas delivered a stat line of 34 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 blocks- all team highs. Junior Jac Moody added 19 points.
The Firestorm (4-1) opened the game with a 10-0 run on the strength of a fast break layup by Sophomore Toni Davis (Junior Jada Willingham recorded the steal and outlet pass assist) and four points from both Christmas and Senior Suzie Castro-Larsen.
Over the next four and a half minutes, ACU tacked on a 14-2 run to take control of the game.
By halftime, Arizona Christian held a 47-30 edge. Christmas was already at 18 points including an impressive rebound catch and shoot while falling down to beat the halftime buzzer. ACU held OUAZ to 29.4% shooting from the field before the break.
While the Firestorm never allowed the Spirit (1-6) to reach a single digit deficit, OUAZ actually outscored ACU in each of the final three quarters. But the first 10 minutes carried Arizona Christian to the win.
Willingham (11 points) and Davis (10 points) joined Christmas and Moody in double digits.
The Firestorm will have the opportunity to enjoy some time off for Thanksgiving before returning to their home court next Tuesday against Bethesda (CA) at 7:00 pm.
