Arizona Christian SLOWLY Beats Biola

Box Score

La Mirada, CA- Despite Arizona Christian Women's Tennis winning 7-2 over Biola, the teams finally concluded their match in four hours and forty-five minutes.  Junior Mikayla Morgan, Sophomore Tia Okano, and Freshman Jayci Kelley won in both of their matches.

Starting with singles, Senior Lauryn Sullins and Okano appeared to be the only the Firestorm wanting to be done in a hurry as they opened with 6-0 sweeps on courts six and two.

Court three- a win for Biola's Lauren Lee- was the only other court to end in straight sets (6-4 and 6-3).

Morgan and Madeline Herr exchanged 6-1 first and second sets before Morgan earned the 6-2 third set and match victory on court one.

Kelley won the first set on court five 6-2 before falling 8-6 in the second.  Kelley then patiently played her way to a 6-2 third set win.

The final singles match (court four) was all about who would slowly break their opponent.  BU's Tinisee Kandakai won the first set 6-4 with Freshman Melanie Dreux earning the 6-3 second set win.  The final singles set of the match was won by Kandakai- though the Firestorm held a 4-2 edge after singles.

Looking for the match win, ACU saw Morgan and Okano roll through doubles court one 8-2 for the win.

The last two matches of the day needed extra games to determine the winner.  Court three was the sister magic as J. Kelley and Freshman Elizabeth Kelley held on for the 9-7 victory.  Junior Autria Compton and Dreux found themselves down 4-1 but they came storming back and pulled off the impressive 9-7 win.

Head Coach Chris Tolson commented, "Proud of the ladies team today.  It was great to see Sullins play so well today.  Our doubles played well today which is great to see as we head into the conference tourney in a week."

The Firestorm (14-7, 4-2 GSAC) face the interesting task of playing the same opponent twice in a matter of hours as they head to Hope International on Saturday.  To make up for a rainout from earlier in the season, the teams will play back-to-back matches though at two different locations beginning at 8:00 am at Fullerton College.
