Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- The ACU Men's Tennis team collected two victories in the first day of the Firestorm Classic on Friday. In the first match, ACU defeated Holy Names 5-4 in a tight battle before collecting the victory over Western New Mexico in the second match of the day, 6-3.
In singles action against the Hawks (0-3), the Firestorm (6-2) secured victories in fifth and six spot in the lineup. Senior Luka Stanivukovic won a tight match, 6-4, 3-6, and 6-2. Freshman Theo Preiswerk won in the sixth singles match by scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
Heading into doubles action, ACU trailed 4-2. The Firestorm came out strong sweeping doubles action to secure the 5-4 victory. In the number one doubles match, Junior Enzo Douillac and Sophomore Jesse Miritello won a tight match, 8-7 (7-5). Juniors Alberto Lapiedra and Daniel Superlano won the number two doubles match by a score of 8-3 while Seniors Marcelo Balderrama and Santiago Galeffi rounded out the third doubles victory with an 8-2 win.
Match two versus Western New Mexico brought a little different action to the match. ACU took five of the singles matches while only picking up one victory in doubles action.
Lapiedra secured a victory in the number two singles match, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Superlano also found victory in the number three spot of the singles lineup, 6-3, 6-0. Junior Scott Wheeler, Balderrama, and Preiswerk rounded out the victories in singles action giving the Firestorm the 5-1 advantage heading to doubles action. ACU's Wheeler and Galeffi won the number three doubles match by a score of 8-3 securing the Firestorm victory.
Arizona Christian continued action Saturday in the Firestorm Classic hosting Colorado Mesa and St. Edwards in matches.
