Box Score 2 Carlsbad, CA- On Thursday, Arizona Christian could not hold early leads against Saint Katherine and dropped the double header 10-2 and 9-7. Junior Taylor Babbitt, Sophomore Tatumn Porras, and Freshman Elsy Guzman all homered.
Game one started on a good note as Senior Chelsea Havill doubled and scored on an error in the top of the first. In the top of the third, Senior Cheyann Michael reached on an error and scored to give ACU the 2-0 edge.
But the Firebirds (14-25) scored a run in the bottom of the third before they exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to build a 10-2 lead.
Needing at least one run to continue the game, the Firestorm (13-24) went down 1-2-3 in the fifth to end the contest.
In the second game, Babbitt began the second inning with a single. Two batters later, Porras sent her first home run of the season over the center field fence for a 2-0 edge.
However, USK countered with a four run bottom of the second to move ahead 4-2. They extended out to a 6-2 advantage.
Babbitt deposited a 2-1 pitch over the fence in center in the fourth- her third of the season.
Guzman doubled and Sophomore Ari Garcilazo singled her home to pull within 6-4 in the top of the sixth.
USK added three insurance runs in the sixth.
Once again down to their final three outs, Freshman Lauryn Nicander and Sophomore Alexis Honeycutt singled back-to-back before Guzman launched a three run home run- her second of the season.
ACU would not get any closer.
On Friday, the Firestorm will square off with #8 Vanguard in Costa Mesa. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
