Box Score GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (6-3; 0-1 GSAC) dropped the opening game of its conference schedule Friday afternoon, falling 83-71 To the Warriors of William Jessup University (4-6; 1-0 GSAC) inside the ACU Events Center.
Thoughts from Coach:
After the loss, Rusty Rogers stated, "I'm really disappointed in the final results. I just felt like they [Jessup] are hustlers and are much more physical than we were. They obviously shot the ball extremely well, especially considering we were the home team and they were the visitors, so we've got to make some big-time adjustments to compete tomorrow. That's what we're aiming to do, and hopefully we have a better result tomorrow."
Game Details:
The loss gives Jessup the 7-6 edge over ACU in the team's all-time series, and extends the Warriors' winning streak against the Firestorm to four games dating back to the 2018-19 season.
After a tightly-contested first quarter in which the Firestorm outscored the Warriors, 23-22, Jessup would battle back in the second to overtake ACU, leading by as many as seven points before ultimately taking a five-point advantage into the intermission, 50-45.
Things remained close in the third quarter as ACU's leading-scorer, Des Gonzalez, came to life with 10 points in the quarter to help bring her team within four points at the end of three, 54-50.
Despite the Firestorm's late push to even things up or to pull ahead, Jessup would remain in control throughout the final quarter, outsourcing ACU in the fourth, 29-21 en route to earning the 12-point victory in the GSAC opener, 83-71.
