Box Score Glendale, AZ - The Arizona Christian University men's soccer program (8-0-1, 2-0-0) continued GSAC play with a 3-0 shutout over Menlo (4-5-0, 1-1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the ACU Football Field.
Thoughts From Coach:
After the match, Head Coach Ted Krzywiecki stated, "Today was a complete team performance. I was pleased with our discipline throughout the match against a very strong Menlo team. Our back line and midfield were rock solid for us in the defensive moments. Much to build on moving into next week."
The Game:
Menlo came out strong to start the game, but it was the Firestorm who opened the scoring as defender Rhett Livingston delivered a striker's finish off a great ball from Nestor Serrano after a free kick opportunity to make it 1-0 at 11:31. The Oaks regrouped though and put together some more chances, but the Firestorm backline held strong as ACU led 1-0 at halftime. The Firestorm came out of the break looking for more and they found it as the NAIA's leading scorer German Lopez scored off a deflected pass into the box to make it 2-0 at 56:33. The Firestorm would add another late as Savino Livornese found Esteban Franco to push the lead to 3-0 at 72:29. Andres Arce recorded two saves and picked up his fourth shutout. Arce and the Firestorm backline extended their shutout streak to 322 minutes as the Firestorm won 3-0.
