Inside the Box Score
The Firestorm needed some big performances tonight, and everyone stepped up to do their part. Payne and Hourigan took care of business down low, securing a dozen rebounds and 27 points betwee the two of them. Alvarez continues to play well, and seems to have found a hot streak in shooting lately, shooting well over 50% from the field tonight. Alvarez heating up couldn't come at a better time for the Firestorm as they prepare for postseason play. Games like the one tonight could be easily overlooked by some teams, but ACU's ability to stay locked in and take care of business speaks to the hard work they've put in all year and to the leadership demanding the best of this team.
Thoughts from Coach Rogers
It's hard to express how proud our coaching staff is of this team. They've battled through obstacles, distractions, and disappointments all season long. The group we have now has as much heart as any group I've ever worked with in 39 years. Today was a great example of how they have bonded as a team and fight for each other. Additionally, today's second quarter may be the best basketball I've ever seen played! Great team victory!
Next for the Firestorm
In the opening round of the GSAC tournament, ACU will face off against the host Menlo College. That game is slated for February 23rd, with tip off scheduled for 8:15 PM Arizona time in the Haynes-Prim Pavillion in Atherton, California.
Roll Storm!
