Inside the Box Score

The ability for any sports team to come out on top in close ball games is an obvious important part of a winning team. Close games being lost can lead to a winning season, while coming up on top time after time on close games is what can lead a team to a great season. And for the baseball team of Arizona Christian University there have now been three victories in the last week. On Friday, Firestorm baseball beat the #8 ranked St. Thomas University Tommies 4 to 3 with a walk off victory in the 9th inning. Jackson Hohensee got the start for Coach McDonald's squad going six innings giving up just one run. Then in the ninth inning reliever Chase Martinez came in to get the save. He gave up 2 runs and led to a chance for the Firestorm to get the walk off being the home team at the neutral site. With the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Daniel Durazo got the single, walking off the game for the Firestorm.

Thoughts from Coach McDonald:

"This was a big win for our school and program.  We pitched, played defense and had timely hitting with some clutch play off the bench and bullpen.  Great win for the ACU Baseball Family!"

Next for the Firestorm

The East/West Challenge continues in Lakeland, Florida tomorrow with the Firestorm taking on their fifth straight ranked opponent, #4 LSU-Shreveport.  That game is scheduled to be played at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, with first pitch scheduled for 9 AM Arizona time.

Roll Storm!
