Abbitt And Meza Deliver Against Mustangs

Santa Clarita, Calif.- Arizona Christian capitalized on their chances to earn a shutout on Saturday against The Master's- the GSAC's top team at the beginning of the day.  Aiden Abbitt and Edwin Meza cashed in the goals for the Firestorm.

  • Half number one saw 14 shots but only four combined on goal
  • Vega and the TMU were credited with two saves each in the first 45 minutes
  • The Mustangs came out shooting in the second half as they let fly ten in the first 15 minutes but only one was on goal
  • Josh Flanagan forced a save on a shot before TMU were off target with three more shots
  • In the 70th minute a foul in the box set Abbitt up for a penalty kick and he buried his team leading sixth goal
  • The match stayed 1-0 ACU into the 90th minute
  • In the closing seconds, Meza punched in his fifth goal of the year on a feed from Meade
  • For Vega, he earned his fourth clean sheet of the season
  • TMU out shot ACU 29-13 but only put four shots on goal
  • The win keeps the Firestorm in the GSAC playoff hunt

"Our guys played like warriors today as a full unit. To get a result like this against a good team like The Master's takes a lot of character.  After a tough turnaround, long travel day and early kickoff - our guys legs were heavy through the second half.  We had to weather the storm of their attacks through the first 25 minutes of the second half and try to generate something when momentum was shifting against us. I am just really happy for our guys."

NEXT UP
On Halloween, the Firestorm will host OUAZ at 8 pm for their final home match of the season.  The seniors playing their final home match will be honored immediately following the proceeding women's match before warming up for their match.
