Glendale, AZ. - The Lady Firestorm used a three-point barrage in the first quarter to jump out to a twenty-three-point lead, and then never looked back in a wire-to-wire victory for their first home win of the 2024-25 season.
The Lady Firestorm connected on seven three-pointers in the first period, four of which came from the games leading scorer,
Graciela Roybal, who scored all 14 of her points in the opening period.
Addison Neal hit two, and
Lauren Gunn hit another to spark the Firestorm to the big early lead.
Said Head Coach
Rusty Rogers, "The ladies did a great job of implementing our game plan with excellent effort and quick pace. I believe Westcliff could win the CalPac so that team is no pushover."
The final three periods saw the Firestorm cool off from three-point range but turn up the pressure defensively. Using a full court press for much of the game, the Lady Firestorm produced 21 steals and 8 blocked shots.
Alyssa Alvarez led the team with 5 steals, while
Emily Till,
Lauren Gunn,
Mae Washington, and Neal all had 3 apiece.
Concluded Coach Rogers, "For our first game as a nationally ranked team, I thought we looked good. We established our tempo early and made them play our game."
