Bats Come Alive On Rainy Day

Glendale, Ariz.- In the opening doubleheader of their series against Park-Gilbert, despite a date and venue change and a delayed start time all due to rain, Arizona Christian came alive with their bats as they swept Park-Gilbert.

Inside Game One
  • Playing on their home field as the visiting team, the Firestorm used Lauko's third home run of the season to take a 2-0 lead
  • Park countered with a run in the bottom of the first
  • Fogleman tripled, Garcia singled, and Bradford tripled for two more in the second 
  • Pinch runner Rachel Martin scored the the lone run of the third
  • Jyden Miles walked and scored on an RBI single from Herrera
  • Herrera then doubled with the bases loaded to plate three in the fifth
  • Wackowski cashed in Herrera with a pinch hit double
  • Madonia smashed a pinch hit home run to left to create a 15-1 score
  • At one point, Herrera retired 11 straight on her way to win number five of the season

Inside Game Two
  • Miles started the nightcap with a single and scored on a single by Herrera
  • Defensively, the Firestorm turned three double plays in the three of the first four innings to keep the 1-0 lead
  • The Buccaneers did move ahead 2-1 with a two run fifth
  • In the top of the the sixth, Bradford doubled, Lauko tripled, and Herrera singled to give ACU back the lead at 3-2 
  • Herrera moved from third to pitcher with runners on the corners in the sixth and retired four of the five batters she faced for her second save

With now a day off between doubleheaders, the teams will return to action on Saturday with the games once again scheduled to be played on the ACU Softball Field with ACU "visiting".  First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 am.
