ACU Takes All Four Games To Get Series Sweep Against Park Gilbert

Glendale, Ariz.- The Firestorm put on an offensive showcase in a dominant doubleheader sweep over Park Gilbert, winning game one by a staggering 13-9 victory and capping the night with a 7-1 victory in game two.

In a high-scoring affair, ACU outlasted Park Gilbert 13-9 in the first game of their doubleheader. The game saw a flurry of home runs and offensive fireworks from both teams. Park Gilbert struck first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but ACU responded with a four-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Logan Sanders. The Firestorm continued their offensive push, extending their lead to 9-2 by the fourth inning after a three-run home run from Kane Kiaunis. Park Gilbert mounted a comeback in the fifth with a five-run explosion, cutting the deficit to 9-7. However, ACU kept their foot on the gas, with Matthew Beckworth adding a solo home run in the seventh and Logan Sanders delivering a clutch two-run double in the eighth to seal the win. Trey Tarver earned the victory for the Firestorm despite allowing seven runs over 4.1 innings, striking out seven. Jackson Hohensee earned another save, having a total of 7 saves on the season thus far.

In game two of the doubleheader, ACU completed the sweep with a dominant 7-1 victory behind a stellar complete-game performance from Kane Kiaunis, who struck out 13 and allowed just four hits over seven innings. The Firestorm jumped out early, plating two runs in the first on a sacrifice fly by Sean Garcia and an RBI single by Jared Anderson. A three-run third inning extended the lead to 5-0 for the Firestorm. Andrew Ivy homered in the fourth to make it 6-0, adding to his strong offensive showing. Park Gilbert got on the board in the sixth, but that was all they could muster against Kiaunis. ACU capped the scoring in the bottom half of the inning when Tanner Vielguth stole third and came home on a throwing error.

With the series sweep, ACU improved to 21-8-1 in the regular season, and 4-4 in GSAC conference play.
