The Firestorm’s Bats Get Hot Against Nelson AZ

Glendale, Ariz.- ACU put on an offensive showcase Wednesday night, securing a dominant 14-2 win over Nelson AZ. The Firestorm erupted for 16 hits, capitalizing on early scoring opportunities to put the game out of reach. Frank Wierman was nearly untouchable on the mound for ACU, only having one hit in five innings, striking out ten, and allowing only one unearned run.

  • In the bottom of the first inning, The Firestorm were on the board first, as Ivy scored first on a wild pitch. Logan Sanders singled to right field, scoring both Tarver and Edmonds and earning two RBI. ACU led 3-0 after the first inning. 
  • In the third inning, the Firestorm scored 6 uninterrupted runs as Anderson doubled to right field that scored a run, Sanders hit a double that scored a run, Greene hit a sacrifice fly that scored two RBI, Beckworth scored on a throwing error, and Edmonds hit a double to right center that scored another run. ACU extended their lead, 9-0. 
  • In the fourth inning, the Firestorm scored another run on a wild pitch. ACU led 10-1. 
  • In the sixth inning, Sanders, Beckworth, and Petersen all hit singles that each earned an RBI. ACU extended their lead, 13-2. 
  • Anderson singled up the middle and earned an RBI as Edmonds scored. 
  • ACU won the game, 14-2.
