College of Idaho Holds Off ACU In A Close Victory

Caldwell, Idaho– In a hard-fought battle, the College of Idaho secured an 8-5 win over Arizona Christian on Sunday. A dominant third quarter proved to be the difference as the Yotes pulled away before withstanding a late push from the Firestorm. Despite the loss, ACU's top performers included Caleb Frey, faceoff specialist Kale Parthen, and Gavin Waddell

Inside The Game
  • In the first quarter, the Firestorm were on the board first when Carson Brown scored the first goal, and assisted by Gavin Waddell
  • Later in the quarter, the Yotes were able to score on the Firestorm and tied the game, 1-1. 
  • In the second quarter, the Firestorm were scoreless as they struggled to find their momentum, while the Yotes scored another two goals. College of Idaho extended their lead, 3-1 at halftime. 
  • Heading into the third quarter, ACU continued to struggle as they only scored one goal. Kellen Haigh was able to score for the Firestorm, assisted by Austin Mejia
  • However, the Yotes had an incredible quarter, scoring five goals in the third quarter. The Yotes extended their lead, 8-2 after the third quarter. 
  • In the fourth quarter, the Firestorm finally got their momentum going as they were able to score three goals thanks to players Parker Vigue, Gavin Waddell, and Caleb Schaapveld
  • The Firestorm held the Yotes to no goals, but it still wasn't enough to get the win. 
  • ACU lost the game, 8-5.

The Firestorm will head to Nampa, ID and play against Northwest Nazarene University on Tuesday at 7pm.
