Glendale, Ariz.- On Monday, the NAIA announced its All-American award recipients, and after helping the Lady Firestorm basketball team to its first ever GSAC championship and a berth in the national tournament, graduate senior
Alyssa Alvarez was awarded with Third Team All-American honors.
Alvarez, who was also named the GSAC Player of the Year, led the Lady Firestorm in scoring, and was third overall in the GSAC averaging 15.0 points per game. Often a clutch shooter for the team, Alvarez was also an adept facilitator; she averaged 3.2 assists per game, and had an assist-turnover ratio which was tops in the GSAC. Alvarez was fifth in the GSAC for three-point field goals made, and third in free throw percentage at 82 percent.
Said Head Coach Rusty Rogers,
"Alyssa had an amazing five-year career here at ACU. She proved to be one of the greatest women's basketball players we have had in the program's history. She positively impacted games with her great offensive skill set that included three-point shooting, drives to the basket and exceptional passing ability!"
