ACU’s Late Rally in Game Two Helps Sweep Embry Riddle in Doubleheader

Prescott, Ariz.- ACU continued its dominant season by sweeping Embry-Riddle, taking game one 14-5 and storming back in game two with a five-run seventh inning for a 5-3 win.

In game one, the Firestorm bats ignited early, erupting for six runs in the second inning to seize control. Kimo Fukofuka opened the scoring with a two-run home run, and Jaylen Edmonds and Trey Tarver followed with multi-RBI singles to cap the frame. ACU pounded out 21 hits, including a 4-for-5 effort with three RBIs from Edmonds and a 4-hit, 3-RBI day by Nathan Greene. The Firestorm added five more runs in the fifth inning to build a 12-0 lead, and Kane Kiaunis sealed the win with a two-run homer in the eighth. Starting pitcher Frank Wierman improved to 7-2 with six shutout innings, striking out eight while scattering three hits.


Trailing 3-0 entering the final frame, ACU mounted a dramatic comeback in game two. Trey Tarver jump-started the rally with a two-run homer, and the Firestorm tacked on three more runs with timely hitting, including an RBI single by Ryan Eastham and a sacrifice fly from Andrew Ivy. Tarver also got the start on the mound, allowing three earned runs over 5.2 innings. Reliever Sean Wiese picked up the win with a key out in the sixth, and closer Jackson Hohensee locked down his 10th save of the season with a scoreless seventh.

  • In the second inning, the Firestorm got on the board first after Fukofuka hit a 2-run shot. Shortly after, Edmonds and Tarver both hit singles that each brought in 2 RBI. ACU led 6-0. 
  • Greene singled to left field and earned an RBI after Logan Sanders scored. ACU extended their lead 7-0. 
  • The Firestorm scored 5 more runs in the fifth inning. ACU extended their lead 12-0. 
  • In the eighth inning, Kiaunis hit a 2-run home run to solidify their win.

  • Down 0-3 in the seventh inning, the Firestorm bounced back as Tarver started the rally by hitting a 2-run home run. 
  • Logan Sanders continued the rally as he got hit by a pitch with bases loaded. ACU tied the game 3-3. 
  • Eastham singled to third base and earned an RBI as Marcus Sanders scored. ACU took the lead, 4-3. 
  • Ivy extended the lead after he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Fukofuka. 
  • ACU won the second game, 5-3.
