ACU Hold Off NAU in a Thriller

Glendale, Ariz.– The Firestorm picked up a hard-fought 11-9 victory over NAU in a fast-paced, back-and-forth battle. After falling behind 3-0 early in the first quarter, ACU responded with two quick goals from Gavin Waddell to close the gap by the end of the opening period. Both teams traded scores in the second, with ACU's Kellen Haigh and Carson Brown finding the back of the net to tie the game 4-4 heading into halftime. The Firestorm took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 6-1 in a decisive stretch. Brown sparked the rally, scoring two of his game-high four goals in the frame, with additional tallies from Kale Parthen, Ryan Leonard, Parker Vigue, and Waddell. By the end of the third, ACU had built a commanding 10-5 lead. NAU mounted a fierce comeback in the fourth quarter, led by Jack Ford's hat trick performance and goals from Bishop Gilfillan and Camden Starmer to pull within one. But ACU's Parker Vigue sealed the win with a late goal off an assist from Blake Smith, halting the Lumberjacks' rally and securing the Firestorm's seventh win of the season.
