The Firestorm Split Doubleheader Against OUAZ

Surprise, Ariz.- ACU stormed back from an early deficit with a six-run fifth inning to power past OUAZ, 11–6, in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Firestorm trailed 3–0 after two innings, but erupted for 11 runs across the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings. Jaylen Edmonds was clutch at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, including a two-run double to cap the fifth. Trey Tarver also knocked in three runs, while Nathan Greene reached base three times and added a pair of RBIs. Starter Frank Wierman earned the win with a strong six-inning outing, allowing just three earned runs while striking out five. Arizona Christian's bullpen allowed three late runs, but the offense had built a comfortable cushion by then.

In the second game of the doubleheader, OUAZ flipped the script, rallying from an early 3–0 hole to edge ACU, 5–3, and earn a doubleheader split. The Firestorm struck early in the top of the first with three runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Kane Kiaunis and an RBI double from Sean Garcia. But OUAZ slowly chipped away, tying it by the fourth on aggressive baserunning and heads-up plays, including a steal of third and score on an errant throw. Dylan Leach's sacrifice fly in the fifth gave OUAZ the lead, and a wild pitch later in the frame brought home an insurance run. Trey Tarver took the loss after pitching 4.2 innings and allowing five earned runs, though he contributed at the plate in Game 1.

  • In the first inning, the Firestorm were on the board first after Kiaunis doubled to left field, bringing in both Edmonds and Ivy. Garcia also doubled down the left field line and earned an RBI after Kiaunis scored. ACU led 3-0. 
  • The Firestorm struggled to score after the first inning, not being able to score a single run the rest of the game. 
  • ACU lost the second game, 3-5.
