The Firestorm and the Mustangs Split Doubleheader

Glendale, Ariz.- ACU and the Master's split a second doubleheader, with the Firestorm winning the first game and the Master's taking the second game. 

In game one, ACU rallied behind a six-run sixth inning to claim a 9–7 comeback win over The Master's. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-run homer in the second inning, followed by solo home runs from in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth. However, the Firestorm responded quickly. After Trey Tarver's three-run blast in the third tied the game, ACU took the lead for good in the sixth. They strung together four straight run-scoring plays, highlighted by an RBI double from Matthew Beckworth and an RBI single from Andrew Ivy. A bases-loaded walk capped the six-run frame. Evan Hieb earned the win in relief, while Jackson Hohensee notched his ninth save with three solid innings of work.

After a thrilling comeback win in the opener, ACU couldn't replicate the magic in game two as the Master's University jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 18–1 Firestorm loss. The Mustangs struck quickly, scoring eight runs over the first two innings. ACU was unable to slow the offensive onslaught, as TMU tacked on three more in the third and continued to add on in the middle innings. The Firestorm were held scoreless until the final inning, when Marcus Sanders drove in their lone run with an RBI single.

  • In the bottom of the third inning, Tarver hit a 3-run home run to tie the game. ACU tied the game, 3-3. 
  • In the fifth inning, Edmonds singled to right field and got 2 RBI as both Marcus Sanders and Beckworth scored. ACU led 5-4. 
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, ACU had a huge inning as they scored 4 runs to solidify their win. 
  • ACU won the first game, 9-7.

  • It was a frustrating game for the Firestorm as they went scoreless for the first six innings. 
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Marcus Sanders singled to center field and earned an RBI as Kiaunis scored their lone run. 
  • ACU lost the second game, 18-1.

On Friday, ACU will head to Prescott, AZ and face Embry Riddle for a doubleheader at 4pm and 7pm.
