Box Score ESPANOLA, NM – The Northern New Mexico Eagles completed the season sweep of the Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon by a final of 79-57 in Espanola, New Mexico.
With the victory, Northern New Mexico College improves to 6-1 overall. With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-8 overall with their third straight loss.
It was a high scoring first half, as ACU and Northern New Mexico came out shooting in the first half on Saturday afternoon. The Firestorm shot 44% from the floor and 42% from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles countered by shooting an astounding 51% from the field and shot 53% from beyond the three-point arc. At the half, the Eagles led the Firestorm by a score of 47-40.
In the second half, the home standing Eagles started to distance themselves from ACU, as they outscored the Firestorm 32-17 enroot to a lopsided 79-57 victory.
In the losing effort, the Firestorm were led by Jazmin Mays and Taylor Blue who both chipped in with 12 points apiece. Northern New Mexico was led by Demetria Clichee who scored 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Clichee was the lone Eagle to score in double figures.
With the victory, Northern New Mexico sweeps ACU 3-0, with wins of 65-60 on October 31st, 78-72 last night November 28th and now today's (Saturday) 79-57 victory.
The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team return to action on Saturday December 6th, when they travel to California to face GSAC rival San Diego Christian College. This will be the Firestorm's first game in conference this season and tip time is scheduled for 3pm.
