Biola Blasts Firestorm

LA MIRADA, CA– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell on Saturday evening to Biola University by a final of 56-45 in La Mirada, California.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in GSAC play. With the victory, Biola improves to 9-3 overall and remains a perfect 3-0 in GSAC play.

Arizona Christian struggled in the first half, shooting just 21% from the field and 16% from behind the three-point arc. The Firestorm went just 1-of-5 from the free-throw line and ended the half with just 15 points. Biola on the other hand, shot 28% from the field and shot 20% from beyond the three-point arc. However, the Eagles did shoot 83% from the free-throw line to take a 24-15 advantage at the half.

In the second half, the teams played a closer contest, with Biola only outscoring ACU by a bucket 32-30. The Firestorm shot 40% from the field in the second half and shot 38% from beyond the three-point arc. ACU only attempted four free-throws in the second half and made three of them. Biola shot 46% from the field in the second half and were unable to make a three-pointer in three attempts. The Eagles were an impressive 8-for-9 from the free throw line in the second half.

Biola had two players score in double figures, led by Elizabeth Munger with 24 points and Chelsea Hill with 19. In the losing effort, the Firestorm were once again led by Sophia Anaya with 24 points on 9-of-24 shooting. Anaya shot 6-for-18 from beyond the three-point arc and had four rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Firestorm women return to action a week from tonight, Saturday December 20th at 7pm when they host Cornell College from Iowa at Fultz Memorial Gymnasium. ACU will then take some time off for the holidays before returning to action on December 30th and 31st for the Arizona Christian University Classic II inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium.
