San Diego Christian Holds On Against Firestorm

SANTEE, CA– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell behind early, but put a late run together before falling to the San Diego Christian College Hawks on Saturday night by a final of 65-61.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-9 overall and are now 0-1 in GSAC play. With the victory, the San Diego Christian Hawks improve to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in GSAC play.

The Arizona Christian Firestorm came out cold on Saturday evening, as they shot just 29% from the floor in the first half and shot 18% from beyond the three-point arc. San Diego Christian on the other hand shot 44% from the field and 60% from beyond the three-point arc to take a 32-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Firestorm came to life as they upped their shooting percentage to 41% and shot 45% from behind the three-point arc. However, San Diego Christian kept their shooting percentage at 44%; but shot just 25% from behind the three point arc. The Firestorm drew within striking distance of the Hawks, but in the end San Diego Christian defended their homecourt and edged the Firestorm by a final of 65-61; even though ACU outscored SDCC 37-33 in the second half.

In the losing effort, ACU was led in scoring by Sophia Anaya with 20 points, four rebounds and two steals. The only other Firestorm member to score in double figures was Taylor Blue with 12 points. San Diego Christian was led in scoring by Gabriell Concepcion with 20 points.

The Firestorm women will now take a break for the week, as the players focus on their upcoming finals. Arizona Christian will return to the hardwood a week from tonight, Saturday December 13th, when they travel back to California to face Biola University. The women will tip-off at 3pm, and be followed by the men at 5pm.
