Box Score PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball fell to the 10th ranked Vanguard Lions on Sunday afternoon by a final of 70-58 inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-13 overall and remain winless at 0-4 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 10th ranked Vanguard Lions improve to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in GSAC play.
The first half featured a quick, fast action half that took just 25 minutes to play. At the break, the Lions led the Firestorm by a score of 34-31. ACU shot 42% from the floor in the first half, while Vanguard shot 44% from the floor. Both squads made only one three-pointer; ACU had ten attempts and Vanguard had eight. Also in the first half, the Firestorm committed just four fouls and Vanguard was able to not record one single foul. The Lions went a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity strip in that first half of play.
In the second half, the Lions outshot the Firestorm 41% to 34% from the floor. Vanguard shot 25% from beyond the three-point arc and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. ACU shot just 27% (3-for-11) from behind the three-point arc in the second half and went 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. Vanguard outscored ACU 36-27 in the second half on their way to the 70-58 win.
Leading the way offensively for the Firestorm in the loss was Coulter Bowlen, who had 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds.
The Firestorm women will next be in action this coming Thursday afternoon, for a rare road matinee at The Master's College. ACU will then remain on the road, when they face Westmont on Saturday. The Firestorm return to Phoenix on January 24th, when they welcome William Jessup to town.
