Warriors Slip Past Firestorm

PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell to the William Jessup Warriors on Saturday afternoon by a final of 74-72 inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium in Phoenix, Arizona.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-16 overall and remain winless in GSAC play at 0-7. With the victory, the William Jessup Warriors improve to 2-17 overall and pick up their first win to improve to 1-7 in GSAC play.

In the first half, the Firestorm came out with passion as they outscored William Jessup 42-34; to take an eight point lead into halftime. ACU shot 51% from the floor and shot 40% from beyond the three-point arc but struggled at the free throw line shooting 6-for-11 (54%). William Jessup in the first half shot 48% from the floor but struggled beyond the three-point arc shooting 33% and only make one of four attempts at the free-throw line.

The second half was a tale of role reversal, as the Warriors shot 43% from the field to just 34% for the Firestorm. William Jessup struggled again from beyond the three-point arc, making just 4-of-15 but they did improve at the free-throw line; making eight of their 11 attempts. ACU on the other hand went 1-for-10 from beyond the three-point arc, but managed to make nine of their 12 free-throw attempts in the second half. The Firestorm were outscored by William Jessup 40-30 in the second half on their way to the two point loss in the final seconds.

The Firestorm had four players in double figures, with Sophia Anaya leading the way with 16 points. Coulter Bowlen tallied 15 points with a team best 11 rebounds.

The Firestorm women will take the week off, before returning home this Saturday January 24th; when William Jessup comes to Phoenix for a 1pm tip-off. The ACU men's basketball team will follow the women's game at 3pm.
